DuoDuo V2 - a month later
It's been about a month since the last DuoDuo update and much has happened.
Firstly, the pcb has changed a bit since the first iteration and now it can be regarded as finished. What mainly changed was the position of the reset button (now placed next to the USB connector) and some cosmetic (silkscreen) changes.
A 3D printed case has also been made, fitted together with stainless steel threaded inserts and screws for a more lasting product.
Second, several DuoDuo pcbs were shipped out to different testers all around the world. The reason for this is to have them test it as well in order to find any possible problems and I am happy to say that it has been very positive.
Here is what some of our testers had to say:
- Tester 1 -
"I tried it with a 8bitdo M30 and an original Saturn controller. In MiSTer, for Saturn I tested Sega Rally and Street Fighter Collection. For Mega Drive I tested Snatcher, Sonic, Virtua Racing Deluxe. Also tested both with my RetroArch compilation on MiSTer."
- Tester 2 -
"Easy to switch between Saturn and Mega Drive, latency and stability seems good, I like that buttons are identical for Saturn/Mega Drive so no necessary mapping is required on MiSTer. Overall quality seems nice and I would recommend this adapter assuming the price is resonable compared to alternatives."
- Tester 3 -
"I tested Mickey Castle of Illusion, Comix Zone and Sonic on the MiSTer Mega Drive core and Daytone and Burning Rangers on the MiSTer Saturn core, everything worked perfectly and flawlessly, there is no detectable lag on this device!"
I have also done more testing personally since the last post about the DuoDuo and it has been a good experience for me as well.
Lastly I would like to say thanks for all the e-mails asking about this product, it's been very motivating. Like I wrote before, this product was mainly created because there are no 2-Player Saturn or 2-Player Mega Drive/Genesis SNAC adapters so this should be seen as a possible compromise.
The DuoDuo is currently being manufactured and I am expecting it to be up for sale later this month.
