Testing the DuoDuo adapter with Genesis controllers

Testing the DuoDuo adapter with Genesis controllers and Saturn 3D Pad

While the DuoDuo adapter will work on PC as well, the main test will be on the MiSTer as that is our main customer base. For testing we used all four ports on the adapter: two 3-Button Genesis controllers, one Saturn Digital controller and one Saturn 3D Pad. One of the great things about the DuoDuo is that it can handle even the Saturn 3D pad which makes playing games like NiGHTS into Dreams possible, and while we only tested with 3-button Genesis controllers, 6-button Genesis controllers will work as well.

Testing the DuoDuo adapter with Genesis controllers

After a basic controller setup it was pretty strait forward, load the core, chose a game and start playing. The DuoDuo has a switch on the side that lets you chose if you want to use either the 2 x DB9 (Genesis) ports or the 2 x Saturn ports. Controllers can be plugged in for all ports at once but only one pair can be used at a time.

We started a Genesis game and first tried playing using the Genesis controllers and it worked fine, then we moved the switch and used the Saturn controllers, no problem. After that we started the Saturn core and tried the same thing and it worked great.

The DuoDuo is a USB-based adapter, it is not a SNAC adapter like we normally sell in the shop so it has to be plugged into a regular USB port on the MiSTer. This also means that a small amount of input lag will be introduced and after playing some games using both types of controllers I can confidently say that the lag in minimal, around 1ms, similar to the Daemonbite adapters that are commonly used within the MiSTer community.

We will continue to do some more testing and after that we will start selling the DuoDuo in the shop, the goal is at the end of August.
